Modeling and control of large-scale wind turbine systems

Considered electrical components of wind turbine systems.

Holistic approach

We work on a holistic approach for modeling, control, identification and fault detection/condition monitoring of the electrical components of wind turbine systems.

Our main goal is to contribute to a decrease in the cost of energy (CoE) by

  • improving reliability and availability and
  • reducing load/stress to the electrical components of the wind turbine system.

Point of view

Our interdisciplinary expertise is based on the combination of engineering disciplines like electrical drives, power electronics and mechatronics and the mathematical discipline systems and control theory.

Therefore we emphasize detailed modeling, and robust & fault-tolerant control of the electrical components of wind turbine systems and a reliable grid integration – also under grid faults – to meet e.g. new grid code requirements.
